The Texas Rangers had its 2010 season come to an end in a 3-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants in Game 5 of the World Series Monday evening at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The Giants used a 10-strikeout performance from right-hander Tim Lincecum and a three-run homer by shortstop Edgar Renteria to win the best-of-seven series four-games-to-one, capturing the club’s first World Series Championship since 1954. Lincecum (2-0) was dominating as he pitched 8.0 innings, scattering three hits for one run with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Texas left-hander Cliff Lee (0-2) was handed the loss allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts in 7.0 innings. San Francisco greeted Lee in the top of the seventh inning with back-to-back singles by left fielder Cody Ross and third baseman Juan Uribe. Two batters later, Renteria launched Lee’s 2-and-0 cutter over the left-center field fence for a three-run home run, putting the Giants ahead 3-0. In the bottom of the seventh, right fielder Nelson Cruz went deep for a one-out solo shot to left field, cutting the Rangers’ deficit to 3-1. After walking second baseman Ian Kinsler, Lincecum ended Texas’ threat with consecutive strikeouts to left fielder David Murphy and catcher Bengie Molina. Closer Neftali Feliz pitched the eighth and ninth innings for the Rangers allowing a hit with no runs and two strikeouts.
