A sell-out crowd saw the Texas Rangers record its franchise’s first World Series victory Saturday evening, beating the San Francisco Giants 4-2 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington in Game 3 of the Fall Classic. The Rangers used eight hits, including two home runs, and trail the Giants two-games-to-one in the best-of-seven series.

Texas right-handed starter Colby Lewis (1-0) was the winning pitcher allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 7.2 innings.

Lewis, who also won Games 2 and 6 of the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees, is the only Rangers pitcher in club history to win a postseason game in Arlington.

San Francisco left-hander Jonathan Sanchez (0-1) took the loss, scattering six hits for four runs while striking out three and walking three.

First baseman Mitch Moreland provided the Rangers with a 3-0 lead in the second inning, ending a nine-pitch at-bat by hitting a three-run homer to right field.

Centerfielder Josh Hamilton then gave Texas a 4-0 advantage after launching a 2-and-1 slider from Sanchez over the right-center field fence.

Right fielder Cody Ross tagged Lewis in the seventh inning for the Giants’ first run, belting his fifth postseason home run to left-center, making the game 4-1.

The Rangers’ lead was cut to 4-2 in the eighth after a solo shot to right field by San Francisco centerfielder Andres Torres.

Lewis exited with two outs in the frame after issuing a hit by pitch to Giants’ first baseman Aubrey Huff. Texas reliever Darren O’Day was summoned from the bullpen and retired Buster Posey on an inning-ending groundout to shortstop.

Rangers’ closer Neftali Feliz earned his first career postseason save, striking out two batters in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Shortstop Elvis Andrus and third baseman Michael Young were the only Rangers players to record multi-hit games, each going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

Texas’ hitters have doubled in each of the team’s 14 games this postseason after left fielder Nelson Cruz hit a double off the center-field wall to leadoff the bottom of the second inning.

The Rangers will look to even the series in Game 4 against the Giants on Sunday, Oct. 31, with a 7:20 p.m. first pitch scheduled for Rangers Ballpark.
