DALLAS -- The Mavericks got off to a quick start tonight at the American Airlines Center against the visiting Detroit Pistons (5-8), going on a 16-2 run. But the Mavericks continue to do what they did in losses to Chicago and New Orleans--stand around and watch Dirk Nowitzki bear all the scoring responsibilities. Nowitzki has 17 points in the first half on 70 percent shooting but the next leading scorer is Caron Butler with just four points. After one quarter, Dallas shot 45 percent from the floor to Detroit's 35 percent. Detroit's offense picked up in the second quarter lead by forwards Tayshaun Prince and Jason Maxiell for a combined 15 points. The Mavericks offense went in the other direction in the second quarter being outscored 14-25. Dallas lost the 14-point lead and trails Detroit by four points after the Mavs couldn't find an offensive groove. Nowitzki can't continue to do all the scoring for this team. Jason Kidd isn't a huge scorer and only has four points in the first half on 16 percent shooting but just two assists for Kidd is the more troubling statistic.
